A note from Theresa
I'm the only one who knows how my life runs.
I'm 49. I've been divorced for almost twenty years, and I've been with my significant other for seven. We have separate homes and separate finances. Not because we're hiding anything from each other, but because we've simply never been involved in managing each other's money.
Then life made it painfully real. Within eight months, we lost people we love — his parents and my grandmother — and in April, we moved my parents into assisted living. In the middle of all that grief and change, we were left piecing together the paperwork of someone else's life. And we realized we certainly did not have our own affairs in order.
If something happened to me tomorrow, who would know how to keep my life running? The answer was unsettling. Just me.
And I realized I'm probably not alone. That's why I created Welp. Now What? Not because I'm planning for something terrible to happen, but because I don't want the people I love to be left scrambling if it does.
